Positions for Junior Research Fellows

The Faculty of Arts and Humanities (University of Tartu) opens positions for junior research fellows to encourage graduating within the standard study period. The measure is aimed at supporting third and fourth-year doctoral students.

Duties and responsibilities: The junior research fellows are required to participate in the research, development, and creative activities of their specialisation under the supervision of a supervisor and based on their individual plan with the outcome to defend the doctoral thesis, develop skills necessary for the activities mentioned above, and professional development. Junior research fellows may teach and supervise at the first and the second level of higher education, and carry out other tasks based on the Job descriptions of academic staff.

Contract's duration: 01.09.2022–31.08.2023

Required qualifications: The position of a junior research fellow is meant only for doctoral students of the University of Tartu.

Requirements:

All third and fourth-year doctoral students who are enrolled in the doctoral programmes of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities can apply for a position.

To apply for the position of a junior research fellow, please submit your

 

to the contact person of your doctoral programme. The application must contain the following:

  • cover letter by the applicant, which includes a timetable of planned completion of one’s thesis semester by semester;
  • letter of support from the supervisor, which includes an assessment of the doctoral student´s accomplishments in research so far, incl. list of research.

The application deadline is May 20, 2022.

 

Additional information

All third and fourth-year doctoral students who are studying within the standard period of study (n+2) can apply, those studying on a full-time basis are preferred. The application round is open for doctoral students who, in addition to their doctoral studies, do not work with a workload exceeding the total load of 1,0.

The positions are filled in the institutes on the basis of the Regulations for the Recruitment of Academic Staff. The selection is made by the head of the institute/ college, who takes into account the documents submitted by the candidate and the doctoral student's latest progress review.
