12.15-13.45 Lecture by Miikka Pyykkönen and Tobias Harding: Current Changes of Cultural Policy in Europe and Nordic Countries. Jakobi 2, room 114
During the 21st century, the general conditions for cultural policy has changed significantly due to developments such as globalization, Europeanization, mediatization, increased migration, and new modes of organization. Culture is now less often seen as an autonomous sphere separated from the rest of society, and cultural policies are now formulated in the context of an increasingly globalized cultural landscape. One of the key changes has been that the sphere of culture has been "economized". The overall significance of culture is evaluated by mirroring its significance for national economy. Cultural industry has become a keyword for the economic success, and competitiveness and entrepreneurship has become the number one work life subjectivity in arts. The latter part of the lecture will focus on this change in Nordic countries, especially in Finland.
14.15-15.45 Lecture by Miikka Pyykkönen (Humanities): Creative economy and cultural entrepreneurship in Nordic countries. Jakobi 2, room 114.
The lecture deals with the changes which have happened in cultural policies of in Nordic countries during the last two decades: economization of creative and cultural sector and entrepreneurialization of the working subject.

Ülikooli 16, room 109 (entrance from the back of the building)
The specific feature of the 20th century experience of Estonia (and other Baltic nations) is that we have experienced both – Western and Soviet modernization or developmental paths. Also, we have experienced discursive practices of memory-work and nation-building in different political systems. These different practices depend on the ways how states implement their politics of culture and education.
How are these phenomena of the nation-state, identity and nation-building reflected in different societal and political disciplines in Europe during the 21st century?
