A new Swedish text- and exercise book is now available

Nästa steg 2, Svenska som andraspråk 2 - nivå B2-C1 (Next step 2, Swedish as a second language 2 - level B2-C1) by Yvonne Hedman and Ewa Holm is available since May 17th.

It is an all-in one text-and exercise book for adult education and upper secondary students, which includes 12 chapters on the topics of speaking, writing, sociolinguistics, dialects and the Swedish minority languages, history of literature starting with the antique era until the Swedish proletarian writers (Arbetarförfattarna) of the 1900s. There are a large number of reading comprehension-and discussion questions in each chapter. All chapters have word explanations in the margins and are accompanied by word- and language exercises as well as a chapter test. The book also has a separate chapter with word- and language exercises to rehearse words and expressions used in the book.

According to Ewa Holm, visiting lecturer in Swedish language and literature at the University of Tartu, it is important that the students get an opportunity to be engaged and inspired by what is taught, which is often difficult to do without the natural surrounding language environment and having the need or opportunity to use the language also outside the classroom. “With this new book, we strived to create a teaching material that we ourselves have lacked before. We took the approach of combining language training and literature studies, so while students speak, write and practice language, they also learn to analyse and reflect on the past and the present in engaging discussion topics,” says Ewa Holm.

Nästa steg 2 is also suitable for self-studies as a key to all exercises is available online at gleerups.se. A digital version of the book will also be published in the near future.

The textbook is available for ordering on the homepage of Gleerups publishing. Likewise, the text-and exercise book for level B1-B2, Nästa steg 1 by Ewa Holm, is also available by the same publisher in print as well as a digital book.
