Writing retreat

Writing retreats are three or four-day events to support writing. The writing retreat allocates time and space that allow participants to focus on writing their monograph or research article without being distracted by their daily duties. Optional workshops are provided during the retreat to support and foster the writing process. Participants also have the opportunity to discuss their writing with their peers and share feedback on the texts they are working on.

Writing retreat on 3–5 May 2024 in Pühajärve

The Estonian Doctoral School for Humanities and Arts invites doctoral researchers and their supervisors to a writing retreat on 3–5 May 3-5, 2024, at Pühajärve Spa and Holiday Resort.

At the writing retreat, participants can focus on writing their thesis or research articles. For this purpose, a seminar room will be provided. In addition, workshops to support writing and (individual) consultations are available. The Doctoral School covers participation costs like accommodation in single rooms, catering, and ordered bus transportation for accepted participants. More detailed instructions and the program will be emailed to the accepted participants about one week before the retreat. We will be accepting up to 20 participants

We kindly ask you to provide a short working plan about the writing you will focus on. While writing the working plan, the following steps may serve as guidelines:
1. Please provide brief background information about the text(s) you will be working on during the retreat (for example, research questions, aims, stage of the work, etc.).
2. Please outline aspects you plan to focus on during the retreat. This corresponds to goal setting and sharing that we will be doing, so we kindly ask you to outline those aspects for each day of the retreat.
3. Feel free to mention any difficulties you have encountered in your writing process. This will help us address them more efficiently during the retreat and provide guidance.
You can submit your working plan through the registration form.

In the selection process will be considered:

  • Preferred are doctoral researchers of Humanities and Arts;
  • Preferred are participants who can participate in the full program;
  • Workplan: structure, elaboration, goal setting.

The deadline for registration by web form is April 10, 2024.
