The Graduate School of Humanities (HUMA) combines Master's programmes in various fields in the humanities, developing interdisciplinary and inter-curricular cooperation in teaching to create novel synergies and support research collaboration.
The Graduate School creates interdisciplinary or field-wide cooperation places in the curricula within the interdisciplinary HUMA Graduate School module (the student chooses up to 15 EAP subject courses based on his/her curriculum). Completing Graduate School courses and participating in joint scientific events provides skills and experience for solving interdisciplinary problems and research questions, deepens integration and cooperation between different disciplines in the field of humanities.
The studies are organised and coordinated within the framework of the Graduate School (planning and conducting joint subjects, organising internships and interdisciplinary seminars, offering elective modules involving guest lecturers and practitioners), thus providing flexible study paths and increasing personal choice for students and providing opportunities for developing their (inter)disciplinary profiles according to their interests.
Cooperation within the framework is organised by the Graduate School Council, which consists of representatives of the disciplines affiliated with the Graduate School.
The Graduate School organises an annual HUMA Autumn School with aim to allow masters students to give a presentation about their thesis and receive feedback from both professors and students from different faculties. The Autumn School is not intended only for specialists in a certain field, but is rather meant for an interdisciplinary audience. The ability to popularise your field of study to a wider audience is a must in today’s academic world.
The next autumn school of the Graduate School will be held on 27.-28. November 2025 at the University of Tartu Library.
